A growing number of states are leveraging new opportunities and flexibilities under Medicaid to cover a range of services and supports that help people find, obtain, and maintain their housing. In 2024, the Housing and Services Resource Center (HSRC) launched the Housing and Services Partnership Accelerator (HSPA) to accelerate the development and implementation of innovative state strategies to provide housing-related services and supports to persons with disabilities and older adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness in states with approved coverage through a section 1115 demonstration or section 1915(i) state plan benefit. Eight states and the District of Columbia are participating in this 12-month technical assistance opportunity that is leveraging federal partnerships to help states strengthen collaboration across Medicaid, housing, aging and disability agencies, resources and programs. Through this program, the HSPA state teams have been developing strategies and building partnerships to improve the coordination of housing assistance and wrap-around services and supports as a cost-effective approach to assisting people with disabilities and older adults to transition from homelessness, exit or avoid institutional settings, and live in the community.
This webinar will highlight best practices, challenges and lessons learned by key HSPA states who are leading the way through implementation of effective partnerships and innovative solutions. It also will provide a brief overview of federal collaborative efforts and describe the individualized technical assistance and facilitated peer learning opportunities offered to states through HSPA. Participants will learn about the growing array of HSPA and related HSRC resources to support state and local efforts to align housing, health and social care.
